Program

8:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. – Breakfast

Investors will have the choice between one of the two packages below:

Package 1

9:00 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. – Options Fundamentals – OIC instructor Steve Meizinger
(with a break from 10:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.)

Steve will focus on options fundamentals for the novice options investor. He will cover essential concepts and terms of options contracts as well as their risk/reward characteristics. Learn about buying and selling calls and puts, how to profit from an expected up or down movement in a stock's price with limited risk, and how to generate income from a stock you already own that doesn't seem to be going anywhere.

12:15 p.m. to 1:15 p.m. – Lunch
1:15 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. – Developing a Trading Strategy – OIC instructor Steve Meizinger

Options are about risk and reward. To be a successful trader, you must know your goals and risk tolerances. This session will help you consider learning to trade in your own “correct” risk/reward balances – not someone else's. Some of the topics include determining an appropriate time period, taking probability into consideration and remembering your initial forecast. Steve will discuss how to actively manage your trades when things are going well – and, when they're not.

Package 2

9:00 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. – Advanced Option Strategies for the Active Investors – MX instructor Patrick Ceresna
(with a break from 10:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.)

Option strategies such as spreads, strangles, straddles and collars are effective ways for traders and investors to participate in volatile markets. Learn the intricacies of opening, managing and exiting these advanced option combinations. This seminar will take you beyond the basic uses of options and will show you how flexible options really are.

12:15 p.m. to 1:15 p.m. – Lunch
1:15 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. – Currency Options Strategies – MX instructor Jason Ayres

USX options allow the investor to trade their views on the U.S. dollar against the Canadian dollar. Learn the contract specifications and trading characteristics of these options while Jason presents you relevant market examples. Whether your objective is to take advantage of a directional move, hedge the currency risk of a portfolio consisting of U.S. securities or offset currency risk as a Canadian company doing business in the U.S., this session will focus on important trading considerations necessary for proper strategy and contract selection.

Common Sessions

2:45 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. – Break
3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. – Only… The Portfolio Matters! – MX instructor Richard Croft

Learn how to build a portfolio just as the professionals do. This seminar will teach investors how they can increase their returns by creating the right balance of risk measures, alpha and beta. Richard Croft will also focus on how core beta strategies with satellite alpha strategies can be incorporated in a portfolio in an effort to manage and reduce risk.

4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. – Introduction to the Canadian Futures Market – MX instructor Patrick Ceresna

Learn the dynamics of the Canadian futures market and how the S&P/TSX Composite Index Mini Futures can be integrated into a portfolio. This seminar will teach investors how futures can be used to create a leveraged position with a directional view or for portfolio hedging purposes.
